Fruit picking finished.....Fraser Island nailed

Hi there,

We finished off our fruit picking adventure a week past saturday and it was a great feeling seeing the back of Bundaberg even Dave with his bout of Chickenpox (ohhh the poor soul) said he felt better the minute he left. a wee mention about fruit picking for anyone thinking of coming to oz, do it, the work was tough and mind numbingly boring at times but the craic was brilliant and i met a heap of folk who i of otherwise wouldn't have known existed another wee point nicknames.

I think i know own about 10 different nicknames but when we were fruit picking everyone was getting them, myself was Andy Murray (hair related reasons) or stretch, Dave was Super Ted I'm still unclear why, Joe was joe mangle beacuse he wore a shirt that made him look like joe mangle, there was a swediish guy we called moglee because he jumped around like he was in the jungle book julian beard and julian tatoo heaps more, Neil never got a nickname i think because he's unique enough, oh that reminds me Neil and katie have decided to stay in Oz for another 6 months so they have to get their 2nd year visa which requires them to work another 5-6 weeks in Bundaberg, thats not good news, but fair play to them they'll need a holiday after that much fruit picking.

So we set off on our Fraser Island adventure last monday which was without doubt the best 3 days in oz yet, I'll need to let the pictures do the talking put this pc is pretty rubbish and can't upload any, lets just say the days were spent marvelling at the beauty of the place and the wildlife, in the space of 10 minutes we saw dolphins, sharks, turtles and whales, while the nights were spent drinking copious amounts of goon, all good fun.

After Fraser we've driven up to Agnes Water, and Bean you weren't wrong beautiful place but no surf just now so we were forced to chill out on the beach!! yeterday we went sea kayaking which was ace banter and then as if normal we were offered to get a facial while kayaking, myself dave and joe of course said yes as we're all comfortable with our sexuality and so we were boosting around the sea with white faces! strange strange experience.

Oh yeah how could i forget, when we were in Rainbow beach after just leaving Fraser Island myself and dave were just getting our fill of neighbours whe who did we spy but the Irish boys from melbourne! great to see them, they had been trying to get hold of us for days but we'd been on the island, no reception, and they were doing the island the day after. its a small world, so we've made plans to meet up and do the rest of the east coast together, this could be messy!

Anyways we've got another day or so in Agnes then we make our way to Airlie beach to do the whitsundays which i'm really looking forwrd to.

I'll try to get to a decent computer next time and get all my photos up

Cheers

International relations...building bridges

So at work the other day and one of the German boys, Jan, nice lad, was talking about how he had won the monopoly game the night before,

"We Germans are very good at making money" he said

To which our friend Joe replied in an instant "Thats because you wipe out all the jews!"

Needless to say that Jan fell silent and then walked off,

Couldn't quite believe what joe had said, he thought it was a valid point, but the look on the Jan's face was priceless.

Good to see that us scotsmen are so good at building foreign relations and letting old wounds heal!

Anyways still in Bundaberg got about another week and half left and tommorrow's the last day of capsicum picking which will be tres bien! then we're back on holiday, off to Fraser Island then the Whitsundays, can't wait.

Speak to you later

Bundaberg......

So I'm in a place called bundaberg at the moment doing a few weeks work to get my finances up to a reasonable level, Bundaberg isn't the greatest place on earth, there isn't much to do other than work, which i suppose is a good thing for those of us who want or need to save.

Working at about 6 every morning mostly picking peppers which is paid by the bucket $1/bucket! big bucks and is not good to my back spending 6 hours hunched over every day is not what someone as lanky as me was designed for i think. Plus points the hours are short and the hostel and people the hostel are all banter, loads of french and belgian people and scots of course.

Couple of notes.

1. Peppers are called capsicums so you have red or green capsicums on ready steady cook!

2. Corchettes are called zuchinis

Amazing, i know!

Anyway just a wee update,

Hope everything is all sound in the sneck and hope Macleod will make it out of Burma intact!
